GSI · Glowbo Skill Index

Your padel level should be more than a guess.

GSI turns your starting player rating and recorded match results into one evolving number that reflects your competitive progress — from 1,000 through 7,000+.

What GSI is

One number, updated after every match

GSI is a single, continuous rating that represents your current level. It changes only when you record match results.

Starting GSI

Set from your self-assessed level

During onboarding you choose your current padel level from 1.0 to 7.0, and that places you on the GSI scale — 3.0 sits around 3,000.

After onboarding

The system takes over

Once you begin recording matches, results shape your GSI. You cannot edit your GSI manually.

Built for doubles

Individual ratings inside 2v2

GSI is calculated per player, not per pair, so your rating reflects you — even when your partner changes.

The GSI Scale · 1,000 – 7,000+

From Beginner to Elite.

The full scale runs from 1,000 all the way to 7,000+. Your starting position is a function of your self-assessed level; where you end up is a function of your matches.

Why doubles needs a different model

Not a simple fixed-points system

GSI is built for padel doubles. Rather than awarding fixed points to whoever won, it takes the whole court into account — who played, at what level and how expected the result was.

Confidence over time

  • Early on — your GSI moves more, because Glowbo is still learning your level.
  • Over time — as your match history grows, your rating settles.
  • Ratings belong to individual players, not to permanent pairs.
  • Changing partners regularly is expected, not a problem.
Why it matters

A rating you can actually use.

Know your level

One number that tells you where you sit competitively, instead of guessing from the last few results.

Better matches

A shared scale makes it far easier to find opponents and partners at a level that makes for a good game.

Real rankings

Because everyone is on the same index, rankings across friends, clubs and the wider community actually mean something.

GSI is under active development during the private beta. We publish how it behaves rather than how it is calculated, so the rating can keep improving as we learn from real matches.

FAQs

Common questions.

What is GSI?+

GSI (Glowbo Skill Index) is a single number between 1,000 and 7,000+ that represents your current competitive level in padel. It updates as you record matches.

How is my starting GSI calculated?+

Your starting GSI is set from the self-assessed 1.0–7.0 padel level you give during onboarding. A level of 3.0 places you around 3,000 on the GSI scale.

Why did my GSI move?+

GSI movement reflects the match you recorded — your current level, the level of the other players on court and how expected the result was.

Does every winner gain the same amount?+

No. Beating stronger opponents gains you more than beating players well below your level, and vice versa for losses.

Can my GSI ever fall?+

Yes. Losing recorded matches — especially against players expected to be weaker than you — will reduce your GSI.

Does changing partners affect my rating?+

Ratings belong to individual players, not to a fixed pair. The system is designed for changing doubles partners.

What happens when I am a new player?+

New players start with higher uncertainty. Your GSI will move more per match at first, then settle as the system becomes more confident in your level.

What is rating confidence?+

Glowbo holds a view of how certain it is about your level. The fewer matches you have recorded, the less settled your GSI is — it stabilises as your match history grows.

Is GSI the same as my original 1.0–7.0 rating?+

No. The 1.0–7.0 rating is only used to establish your starting point. After onboarding, GSI evolves based on your recorded match results.

Can I edit my GSI manually?+

No. GSI is calculated from recorded matches and cannot be edited by players after onboarding.

Is GSI just a win/loss points system?+

No. GSI is designed for padel doubles, so it takes account of everyone on court rather than simply awarding fixed points to the winners.

Are friendly matches included?+

Any 2v2 match logged in Glowbo contributes to GSI. Only matches you choose to record affect your rating.
